About Vicky Watermeyer MRCSLT LSLS CertAVT
I am a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT), with a background in both speech and language therapy and audiology. Having started my career in diagnostic audiology, working with both adults and children, I then made the move to a cochlear implant program, where I was introduced to the Auditory Verbal therapy approach. Since then, I have focused my practice on supporting families with deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) children to learn to speak through listening.
For the past 13 years, I have worked with families at Auditory Verbal UK, where I trained and was mentored towards Certification as an Auditory Verbal Therapist by Jacqueline Stokes and Louise Ashton. I have supported a large and varied caseload of children and their families, helping them build listening, language, and communication skills through everyday interactions and play.
My approach is rooted in auditory verbal principles, but shaped by the individual child in front of me. I have a particular interest in working with children who are neurodivergent or have additional or complex needs. These are often the children who don’t fit neatly into boxes—and where careful, responsive, and creative support can make the biggest difference.
Alongside my clinical work, I also train and mentor other professionals working towards LSLS certification. Supporting therapists to grow their confidence and skills is something I enjoy and care deeply about.
At the heart of everything I do is a belief that communication develops best when the adults around a child feel confident, supported, and equipped to “shine a light on their child’s brilliance”. My role is not just to work with your child, but to work with you—so that strategies carry over into real life, where they matter most.
